The COordinated Regional Downscaling EXperiment (CORDEX) is related to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). The intention of CORDEX is to organize an international coordinated framework for regional climate simulations for different regions of the world.
Within CORDEX regional climate projection ensembles have been produced for many regions of the world (domains). The ensembles for each domain consist of simulations with multiple Regional Climate Models (RCMs) and are complemented with data from statistical downscaling methods. The boundary conditions for the downscaling are taken from different GCMs of the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). For most of the regions, the grid spacing for the downscaling is 50 km (0.44°), favoring the engagement of more modelling groups.
The CORDEX domains are the international standard domains for regional climate simulations. A description of all CORDEX domains is available here . For more information about the experimental protocol and the specifications for the data please visit the CORDEX webpage . The CORDEX terms of use can be found here . The results from the CORDEX simulations are available on the data portal of the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF).
